Construction Materials Testing Technicians

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
  • Conducting Various Concrete Laboratory Tests:

    • Perform a comprehensive range of concrete laboratory tests, including but not limited to slump tests, compressive strength tests, and J-ring tests. These tests are critical in assessing the workability, strength, and consistency of concrete mixes. Each test must be conducted in strict accordance with relevant Australian Standards, ensuring that the concrete meets the required specifications for its intended use.

  • Collecting and Preparing Samples for Testing:

    • Collect concrete samples from various sites and prepare them for testing in the lab according to the specific guidelines outlined in Australian Standards. This involves ensuring that samples are representative of the batch, properly labelled, and stored under appropriate conditions to prevent contamination or degradation before testing. Proper sample preparation is crucial for obtaining accurate and reliable test results.

  • Recording and Analysing Test Results Accurately:

    • Document all test results meticulously, ensuring that they are recorded in a format compliant with Australian Standards. Analyse the data to determine whether the concrete meets the required performance criteria and prepare detailed reports for stakeholders. Accurate recording and analysis are essential for tracking quality and making informed decisions about the concrete's suitability for use in construction projects.

  • Ensuring Compliance with Industry Standards and Project Specifications:

    • Ensure that all testing procedures, results, and lab operations comply with the relevant Australian Standards. This involves regularly reviewing standards updates, implementing necessary changes in testing protocols, and ensuring that all test results meet the specific project specifications. Compliance with these standards is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the construction process and ensuring the safety and durability of the structures being built.

  • Maintaining Testing Equipment and Keeping Detailed Records of All Tests Performed:

    • Regularly inspect and maintain all testing equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and calibrated according to Australian Standards. Keep detailed maintenance logs and calibration records to ensure traceability and compliance with industry regulations. Additionally, maintain comprehensive records of all tests performed, including test conditions, results, and any deviations from standard procedures. Proper equipment maintenance and record-keeping are essential for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results.
